The total contract value is approximately 29 million euros (approximately $ 39 million US) of which Bombardier’s share is approximately 14 million euros (approximately $ 19 million US). This contract award follows Bombardier’s success in being the first company to install a modern system in the Baltics and in Russia and strengthens its market-leading position throughout the region. The new signalling system will be installed on the Tashguzar – Kumkurgan line, which is more than 200 km in length serving 17 stations in Southern Uzbekistan. Bombardier will provide its advanced EBI Lock 950 computer-based interlocking systems, object controllers and wayside equipment including point machines, LED signals, level crossings, axle counters and track circuits as well as supervising all design, engineering and installation. The systems will be produced in Sweden, with signalling works being provided principally by Bombardier Transportation (Signal) Ltd., Russia. Delivery is scheduled to commence during 2009. Anders Lindberg, President, Rail Control Solutions, Bombardier Transportation, said: “Uzbekistan is part of a potential CIS market of over 50,000 km of railways. This is a significant order for Bombardier as this will be the first delivery of modern signalling in the C.I.S., demonstrating Bombardier’s leadership in this market.” Commenting on this announcement, Per Allmér, Rail Control Solutions Regional Head for Nordic Countries and Baltics, added: “Bombardier delivered the first computer-based interlocking system in Russia in 2000 and has to date installed systems at 58 stations in Russia, and since 2001 has installed a further 12 in the Baltics. We are proud to be involved in this exciting era for the CIS as they develop their railway network”. Bombardier’s EBI Lock computer-based interlocking systems supervise and control wayside objects such as signals, point machines and level crossing protection. Building on nearly 30 years of experience, Bombardier has delivered more than 500 computer-based interlocking systems to 50 customers in 25 countries around the world. Bombardier’s Rail Control Solutions portfolio covers the whole range Bombardier CITYFLO mass transit solutions from manual to fully automatic systems, as well as communication based systems, and Bombardier INTERFLO mainline solutions through from conventional systems to ERTMS level 2 systems.
